News/Shows
Here is the latest Brian Moritz news and information about upcoming shows.
Brian isn't playing any shows at this time. He is concentrating on writing songs for a new album.
"Some Mother's Son" reviewed on HoneyMusic.net.
"Predictable but convincing, Moritz pushes alternative country in a semi-splendid direction here but I'm sorry, some songs feel a little routine by the end. Here is a motley crowd of woebegone wretches who had spent the night in the rain. But the current could also very well sweep him away. Featuring Burt Day(Hester Prine,Unprepared Campers) and Tony Reed (Treepeople,12:30 Dreantime), Some Mother's Son isn't exactly exploding with glee. "In the dead of night there's a body floating on a lake" Moritz forbiddingly sings at the beginning of the title track, and it's almost like he doesn't have the heart to tell us these stories of death and betrayal. The release is well done in a lot of areas splashing roots, folk and rock into the mix in a release from 2000. Not a hard concept album, it still has dark consistant themes. Unfortunately, demographics now rule the industry, allowing young artists such as Faith Hill and Shania Twain to aim unashamedly at a teenage audience. The true artist helps the world by revealing mystic truths."
"Criminal Injustice" reviewed in Punk Planet by Dan Laidman.
Neo-psychedelic folk singer Brian Moritz has assembled an album all about the criminal justice system after, he says, his sister was sent to federal prison for a marijuana conviction. The result is almost Brechtian, a piece of social protest musicial theater. The blunt lyrics are more sad than angry.
Brian's chandler tele. It's chevrolet orange with black hardware and a demarzio humbucker in the neck position.
Brian's Gibson Blueshawk. Great guitar with two soap bar pickups. It sounds great, plays great and looks cool.
